Naturopathy & Herbalism

Naturopathy is a holistic system of healthcare, founded on the principle of tolle causam - to treat the cause. As a naturopath and herbalist, my job is to help you investigate the cause of your symptoms, so we can address the issue at its core. My aim is educate and inspire you to improve your health and wellbeing, utilising nutritional and herbal medicine, dietary advice and lifestyle changes.

A typical naturopathic consultation might involve:
✓ Comprehensive case taking
✓ Exploration of your goals for treatment
✓ Dietary analysis and nutritional planning
✓ Analysis of pathology results (blood tests, ultrasound reports etc)
✓ Recommendation or referral for further investigations, where required
✓ A personalised treatment plan, incorporating dietary and lifestyle suggestions, nutritional supplementation and/or herbal medicine, as indicated

As a herbalist, I use components of Western Herbal Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic medicine to support my patients and provide an individualised approach to treatment. I don’t do generic dietary plans, protocols or bandaid approaches. My treatment plan is tailored to you and is as individual as the health journey you’ve been on.

Nutritional Medicine

Nutritional medicine is a major component of my training as a naturopath. So much of our health is derived from the foods we eat, and my goal is to help you better understand this relationship so we can implement practical and realistic strategies to improve your health.

As a clinician, dietary analysis helps me understand what factors might be contributing to your current health status and how we can use ‘food as medicine’ to improve your health. Investigating potential nutritional deficiencies is another key part of the process, so that we may correct potential issues through dietary modification and/or nutritional supplementation as required.

As a naturopath, my approach to diet is pragmatic and realistic. I provide my patients with tailored dietary advice including specific recommendations, recipes, meal suggestions and monitoring where required, to ensure a sustainable and manageable approach. I believe in the importance of using real food and avoiding crash diets or fads; after all, my goal is to teach you how to eat for life.

Pregnancy Support & Birth Education

As a qualified childbirth educator, I am fortunate to be able to provide birth education, in addition to naturopathic support throughout the preconception, pregnancy and postpartum period. My work in the birth education field is centred on educating and empowering my clients, giving them the tools and information needed to navigate the maternity system, make decisions that are right for them and foster self-trust and intuition. I am passionate about providing quality, evidence-based information, and helping my clients integrate their intuition with the best evidence we have on the subject, so that they can make decisions that are safe, informed and right for them.

Whether my clients are pursuing homebirth, hospital birth, a VBAC or an elective caesarean, my job is to provide unbiased information and non-judgemental support. My goal is to teach my clients that birth isn’t something to be feared, but rather an experience to embrace. I aim to give my clients the tools and information needed to take ownership of their pregnancy journey, navigate the maternity system and prepare for a calm and informed birth experience, no matter the direction their birth takes.

Research

As a naturopath, much of my work takes place outside of the consultation, researching, reading current scientific literature, attending seminars and completing further education. In addition to graduating as Dux of my naturopathy degree, I am also a qualified childbirth educator and am required to complete ongoing professional training each year in order to maintain my registration in both fields.

As a clinician, the research process involves ongoing case work, pathology analysis and case preparation. It involves corresponding with other healthcare professionals who might be involved in your care, so as to ensure an open and collaborative approach to treatment. It involves planning, analysing, tracking and of course, plenty of reading, but it is one of the components of my job I enjoy the most.

I am highly invested in my patients’ wellbeing and in achieving their desired health outcomes - I believe research is integral to doing just that. The more I can stay on top of the latest research in health, disease, nutrition, pregnancy, birth and herbalism, the better my understanding of your condition and the more effective, informed and results-oriented our treatment plan can be.
