Thyroid Health
Thyroid conditions are common in Australia, particularly among women, yet many people feel they don’t fully understand what’s going on with their thyroid, or how to make sense of their results and symptoms.
You might have been diagnosed with a thyroid condition and put on thyroid medication, and yet you still don’t feel yourself. Or you may be experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, weight changes, brain fog, or constipation, while being told your results are ‘normal’. You might even feel all of your symptoms are attributed to your thyroid, without proper investigation as to whether something else might be going on.
Thyroid conditions aren’t straightforward, but they are rarely random - with a more detailed, contextual approach, we can start to understand what is thyroid-related, what isn’t, and what may need further attention.
Who I Work With
I support individuals with a range of thyroid issues, including:
Hypothyroidism and subclinical hypothyroidism
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
Postpartum thyroiditis
Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism
Thyroid nodules
Ongoing symptoms despite ‘normal’ results.
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to need support. If something feels off, it’s worth exploring properly.
What I Look At
Thyroid health is so much more than ‘TSH’. I look at the full picture, which includes:
TSH, Free T4, Free T3
Thyroid antibodies (TPO, TgAb)
Reverse T3 and the ratios between your thyroid hormones
Patterns over time, not just single results
Symptoms alongside test results
And beyond the thyroid itself:
Iron status (including ferritin)
Nutrient levels (considering nutrients like iodine, selenium, zinc, B12, folate and vitamin D)
Stress and adrenal health
Gut health and inflammation
Immune function
Because the thyroid doesn’t operate in isolation - it’s a sensitive barometer for what’s happening across your whole system.
So often patients come to me experiencing symptoms despite being told their thyroid function is normal. But reference ranges are broad, and don’t always reflect what is optimal for you — particularly when it comes to thyroid function. This is where a more detailed, contextual approach is important.
